A Time Apart: Animation Begins!!!! Scene 1 Progress 1&2

For the past few days I've been animating, I thought I could get away with not having any sticky eyes and it not being very noticeable but it is. Sticky eyes is where the eyelid moves to accommodate eye movement - it's one of those things you can't stop seeing once you know its there, (at least for me it is). I've had a couple issues whilst giving my characters sticky eyes, so far Doris and Fred are complete and Rosa is almost done I'm just having some problems plugging in her right eyelash because it jump to the left side once the blendshape is switched on.

I'm animating in my pre viz sets and modelling them as I go. The first video doesn't have any sticky eyes or animation refinement, after getting feedback my mind was refreshed on some animation basics and facial animation which I have gone in and added in the second progress video. I am still not done with this scene, I have the end of it to refine a lot more (0:15 - 0:20). The still part between seconds 12 and 14 is just some leeway for when I'm editing. I've also changed the camera from a standard maya one to a rigged one which allows better movement and easier to edit in the graph editor as you can segregate the channels. With this scene also I'm going to animate the actual train model rocking rather than just having a shake script on the camera, I will then animate the characters to bounce with the train's movement once they have been animated. Another update is that I've removed the hand holding shot but I'm still keeping the looking out of the window shot and Fred/Doris close ups (I just haven't got that far yet).

My next post probably won't be for a few days.

I won't post my animation reference until I have all the animation for this scene completed.

When Maya glitches whilst scrubbing the animation timeline.

  1. That's a terrifying glitch! But congrats on breaking the seal on your animation duties! Onwards!
