A Time Apart: Indoor Fred (Well Kept)

For the first half of today I've been fixing, modelling and texturing Fred's indoor (good condition) character rig, I've copied over the weights from the out door rig as the model is sculpted from the coat's geometry, I've tried to keep as much of it as possible. Not much skinning needs doing to it just a bit of clean up. I've also modelled and UV mapped the  indoor poor condition Fred but most of his state will be shown through textures.
For the rest of today I'm going to be animating the first scene of my pre viz for real with my rigged characters in the pre viz sets with the cameras already keyed into place.

I'm not going to texture poor condition Fred until I need/use him, I may add the small detail of having his socks gathered around his ankles and uneven depending on time and whether in my pre viz we'd even see this to warrant me doing it.

A Time Apart: Fred Rig Demo

Now Fred is completely rigged and skinned ready for animation I have made a rig demo to show how it works!

A Time Apart: Fred Eyebrow Rig Complete

Now that the brow rig is complete, I made a few random facial expressions with them, below that as are all the eyebrow shapes I actually made. Now the entire rig is complete I will made a rig demo.

Below have eyebrows moved only:

A Time Apart: Fred Mouth Rig Complete

I have completed the mouth rig! I came across a few problems whilst doing doing it such as part of the head would move, the corner mouth control wasn't moving with the 4 centre rings, I thought my parallel blendshapes were incorrect (they weren't but they looked it at it was very misleading) and so on.

Tomorrow I am going to do the eyebrows and extra face controls then that will be Fred rigged as far as the Jet Pack Jones tutorials go, I will then repeat the rigging process for Doris and Rosa. Tonight I am going to create a timetable that I will do my best to stick too now that my dissertation is out the way and can give my all to major.

A Time Apart: Fred Blink Rig

I have successfully rigged the eyes to blink! I may edit the pose space deformers later to fix the corners of the eyes a bit more when they shut (as I don't want to overdo it now and ruin it) but for now I am happy with it!

Raised lower lids only

A Time Apart: Fred Lateral Mouth Movements

Whilst doing the mouth shapes I've deliberately left a small gap between the lips as the neutral position has a gap which I did when modelling intentionally because the vertices would often merge together, when the rig is done I can always key the bottom jaw to close properly how I want it to (at least I think I can).
I struggled with this, particularly the downward motion (image below), the right head was my first attempt where I was getting the flick on the end which I don't really want so I tried fixing it by sculpting and got the left head as a result. I will come back to the mouth tomorrow in the meantime I will be adding in a blink and working on my art of.

A Time Apart: Fred Teeth and Tongue Rig

The teeth, gums and tongue have been successfully rigged ready for me to start making more complex mouth shapes next. I haven't been too picky with how the inner mouth looks because for the majority of the film his mouth is closed and when opened, opens slightly.

A Time Apart: Teeth and Tongue Modelling for Fred, Doris and Rosa

Teeth, tongue and gums modeled ready to become part of the rig, whilst I was doing Fred's I did Doris's and Rosa's ready for when I rig them. I made Rosa's the neatest and Doris's the more goofy but not too goofy teeth as I feel it adds more to the personality and pushes the character that bit more.
