The scene starts on a mantle piece above the fireplace looking at a family photo of Grandad, Doris, Rosa and Fred whilst the bottom right corner reads "London, September 1939" which fades before panning down to the fire in the fireplace where we see a bloody tissue thrown into the fireplace (no body part in the shot). About 5 seconds into this scene the declaration of war announcement that was heard on radios will be played and at the end before the tissue is thrown into the fire we hear aggressive coughing. (During this time Fred had TB and would throw his used tissues into the fire also fire is significant to represent destruction and war).
