Talking to Simon, I knew straight away I wouldn't be using any bump maps on paper as I didn't want it to be the kind of roughness a bump texture gives, it just had to look subtly like paper perhaps a scanned image of paper over a rough bumped texture. I will put a paper texture in the colour node and use the multiply blending mode to give the paper texture colour to look as if it had been printed on, in my old books you can see the paper texture through the ink. Making it look like worn printed on paper adds to the nostalgic feel of the childhood books.
We spoke about drawing lines onto a UV map to be influenced by Dr Seuss's pen/line art but before I did that I wanted to test out a toon shader on a modelled cell... I won't be going with toon as it's too neat for the Dr Seuss world.
