Thinking about what Fred looks like when he's inside the house (as he wouldn't be wearing his hat and coat all the time) here's the design of him at the beginning and end of Act 2 (montage sequence). When he first arrives he's well kept and clean under Rosa's care but when he's had weeks/months of neglect he gets paler, more tired, grazed knees, stretched socks that won't stay up, hole in his shoes, untucked shirt and pockets, dirtier stained clothes, paler skin, long unbrushed hair, limp/sole peeling shoe etc.
