5 Reasons Why Moulin Rouge is Postmodern

  1. Reflexive - faces up to it’s own reality and challenges the dogmatism of prostitute expectations as well as encouraging feminism, Satine doesn’t have be to owned she has the freedom to choose.
  2. Moulin Rouge us a mash up of genres: musical, comedy, romance, drama. The editing creates comedic feel and the appropriation bricolage of pop music (Can Can, Your Song etc) to exaggerate this parody of musical genre.
  3. Moulin Rouge seems linear to follow but we are reminded this is Christian’s story - a memoire of Satine but Christian writes it as it happens so not completely linear.
  4. Meta narrative - A love story about creating a love story theatre production.
  5. Moulin Rouge is schizoid, especially elements such as Kylie Minogue as a green fairy and how we are introduced to the Moulin Rouge in all the quick paced.
