- Reflexive - faces up to it’s own reality and challenges the dogmatism of prostitute expectations as well as encouraging feminism, Satine doesn’t have be to owned she has the freedom to choose.
- Moulin Rouge us a mash up of genres: musical, comedy, romance, drama. The editing creates comedic feel and the appropriation bricolage of pop music (Can Can, Your Song etc) to exaggerate this parody of musical genre.
- Moulin Rouge seems linear to follow but we are reminded this is Christian’s story - a memoire of Satine but Christian writes it as it happens so not completely linear.
- Meta narrative - A love story about creating a love story theatre production.
- Moulin Rouge is schizoid, especially elements such as Kylie Minogue as a green fairy and how we are introduced to the Moulin Rouge in all the quick paced.
