Idea and how to do

Because I'm going for 2.5D, the beginning with the credits and introduction before I actually get to the science part of my poem could be like a Dr Seuss pop up book. Below I have Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas and they use a pop up book for a transition between stories but the actual story is 3D animation. I could do this bit in After Effects, it will look like a pop up book but you won't see a book.
