A mother who will stop at nothing to undo the damage of fate.
Logline:
After the loss of her daughter to suicide, a roboticist mother goes to the extremes to recreate her daughter as a robot in the cellar of the house, so that she can do right by her daughter like she should have done before she killed herself, she uses her daughter's diary to programme the commands part of this robot which only results in the robot committing suicide the same way the daughter did.
Step Outline:
- Mother working in lab/cellar on robot, camera zooms out of room to outside the closed door that has a do not disturb sign.
- Daughter at bottom of the stairs looks at the sign in sorrow and drags herself up the stairs.
- In her bedroom, she lays on her bed with tears coming from her eyes then rolls over to her bedside table and takes the diary from inside the top drawer and begins to write, words appear around her head as she writes, then she puts the diary down on the bedside table and gets up in a trance, she walks out the room but the camera doesn't follow instead it looks at a clock then the diary. *fades to black*.
- At the park, the daughter is on the edge of a mini dock at a lake where the daughter falls in and sinks.
- *Few days later*
- Back in the cellar we watch the mother struggle to concentrate on her work because of her guilt.
- We watch her go upstairs and lay on the daughter's bed hugging the diary, she gets an idea and rushes down to the cellar to the robot she was working on in the first scene.
- In the cellar she scans every part of the diary and some software on the computer extracts quotes and forms a speech database. The mother programmes the robot and it comes to life, she begins to ask questions she knows the answer to thanks to the diary. The short conversation starts off sweet and quickly turns depressing, the robot storms out back to the lake, the mother doesn't realise straight away what's happening she just stands in the cellar staring into space deep in thought before realising what's about to happen.
- Back at the lake, the robot is on the edge like the daughter was, the mother is in the distance. The mother doesn't sprint or do anything, she just stays there watching, letting her daughter go for good.
- Final shot is a slow zoom on the opened diary revealing the suicide note.
